Cal State Channel Islands (91ÊÓƵ) has been awarded a five-year, $3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Strengthening Institutions Program to launch CI Compass: Guiding Students from Entry to Employment. The initiative will support students from their first year through graduation and into their careers.

CI Compass will create an integrated network of academic support and workforce preparation centered on three strategies:

  • academic and career navigators who will help first-year students and those who have not declared a major connect their academic interests with career pathways

  • an enhanced early alert system and coordinated interventions to connect students with timely support

  • cohort-based, project-based learning that combines academic skill development, career exploration and real-world experiences

The initiative also supports CSU Forward and the CSU Student Success Framework by creating more personalized student pathways, expanding experiential and career-connected learning, and advancing students’ social and economic mobility.

Together, these efforts aim to improve retention, degree completion, career readiness, and outcomes after graduation.
