From Aztecas del Norte to Chichimecas en Aztlán: The Arrival of an Indigenous Mexican Identity through Danza Tolteca-Chichimeca in San Diego
In the early 1970s, in the first wave of the Chicano Movement, a tradition then known as Danza Azteca was brought to the US, transforming the Chicana/o/e identity and sacred space. This exhibition traces the arrival of the Danza tradition to the Chicana/o/e Community in San Diego in 1974 and its development into a significant expression of Chicana/o/e spirituality and indigenous identity in the US over the last 52 years.
