The CSU General Education Policy () establishes a common understanding of the requirements for California State University (CSU) General Education (GE) and provides guidance for the certification of courses completed by transfer students at institutionally accredited colleges or universities.
To ensure compliance with CSU General Education Policy (EO 1100), CSU Channel Islands has enacted multiple GE related campus policies, including those related to assessment of GE courses.
The Policy on outlines each GE area and explains its Program Learning Outcome (PLO) and associated Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs). Courses certified as GE courses by CI’s General Education Committee all incorporate at least one GE PLO and corresponding SLO that require regular assessment.
The upcoming GE Assessment Policy details the schedule for when each GE area courses need to be assessed on a continual 5-year cycle.
If you are the instructor for a GE designated course, you can locate your course’s SLOs, including GE SLOs in Curriculog. Here is a for how to do that.
Rubrics for all of the GE SLOs exist on the GE website and in Canvas Outcomes for use by GE instructors in their courses.
If you would like help setting up assessment in your GE course, please email the Faculty Director of Assessment and Program Review, Dr. Melissa Soenke (melissa.soenke@csuci.edu).
