A student is eligible to participate in TRIO SSS if a student meets all of the following criteria:
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Currently enrolled at 91ÊÓÆµ as an undergraduate student.
- Not a participant in the 91ÊÓÆµ Educational Opportunity Program (EOP).
- Not enrolled as an International student.
- Demonstrates academic needs.
- Must meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Considered low-income based on federal income guidelines.
- Is a First-generation college student (the student's parents or legal guardians have not completed a 4-year college degree).
- Has a documented disability.
Financial Verification
According to federal policy (Higher Education Act (e)(1)), TRIO SSS must provide documentation of a student's eligibility for the program to the U.S. Department of Education and implement the grant regulations that state two-thirds of the students served must meet federal first-generation and low-income guidelines.

WHY DO I NEED TO SUBMIT MY PARENTS' TAX INFORMATION?
Parent tax information and signature(s) are required if the student can still be claimed as a dependent under federal financial aid law. A student is ONLY CONSIDERED INDEPENDENT according to Federal Financial Aid if they meet one of the following criteria:
- Is at least 24 years old by December 31 of the award year
- Is married;
- Has legal dependent(s)
- Is a veteran of the United States Armed Forces;
- Is an orphan of ward of the State of California or his/her residential state;
