It is important that the California State University is as equally represented as the Community Colleges at this summit. CSU presidents have expressed their concern to the Chancellors office that the UC will try to capture more of the funding for education in the state which would redefine the CSU system. -Washington State University has just announced that 2000 students are infected with the H1N1 flu as well as other campuses in the Southeast and Northwest. The cases are not very intense, but the students have still been quarantined at these campuses. The Risk Management department here will be distributing additional information on preventative measures, ensuring that we do our best to get ahead of this potential threat before it gets serious. -The President met with Chancellor Reed last week and gave him samples of our new logo and invited him to attend our Muhammad Yunus event on February 26, 2010. -He also shared our student accomplishments with the Chancellor. Please let him know of student accomplishments in each of your respective areas. -On October 14-15, 2009, President Rush/91Ƶ will host the National Board of Directors Campus Compact meeting. It was at Georgetown University last month. This is further evidence that we, a very young campus, are being recognized for civic engagement. -The Smithsonian Institution will be honoring four campuses for their work on the Bracero Oral History project. Those campuses are Georgetown, the University of Texas, El Paso, Brown University, and CSU Channel Islands. The President will proudly represent us. Report from the Senate Chair -Chair Hartung reported that the Statewide Senate Chairs were busy over the summer; there was much discussion via the statewide listserve on the topic of furloughs. The Chairs crafted a statement that was read at the July Board of Trustees meeting, encouraging the Board to ensure transparency and to maintain faculty participation/voice as events unfold (e.g., furlough, tuition bump). -Chair Hartung welcomed all the new members of the Senate Executive Committee. -Chair Hartung requested Senate committees meet less frequently this year in an effort to decrease workload for committee members. -Chair Hartung encouraged all senators to keep up with blogs at CSU (blogs.calstate.edu/clips). Contact Nancy Gill to be included in a recipient list for a daily posting of CSU news. First Reading item SR 09-01 Resolution to suspend self-study for Academic Program Reviews due in 2009-2010. -S. Lefevre spoke about the resolution, clarifying that the History and Psychology programs will have the option to opt out and continue their review process if they choose to do so. Also if the resolution is passed, it will move back the review dates for programs in future years. -Provost Neuman added that the reason for the postponement was to reduce the workload for the program areas and allow them instead to concentrate on assessment. -I. Grzegorczyk motioned to move to a second reading. M. Adler pointed out that a lot of faculty were missing and may not have had a chance to review the document yet. There was no second to the motion, so the initial motion died. Report from Standing Committee Chairs: Business for AY 2009-2010 Committee on Committees: Elections for 09-10 -P. Smith and C.
