Call to order -2:38 p.m. Approval of Agenda -unanimous approval Approval of the Minutes from the last Senate Meeting (October 31) -unanimous approval Intent to raise questions -In response to the question about recording campus events and archiving them: -Tom Emens, Library Techology, states that he has done what he could when possible to record events, however, such an undertaking has become a full-time job. He strongly advises against any official policy which uses existing staff positions to fulfill the goal of covering and archiving campus events. -Evelyn Taylor, University Archivist, states that campus events are documented in the archives either through her obtaining documentation of an event or someone donating the material to her. -In response to the question about future plans to build tennis courts and using the existing bowling alley? -Deborah Wylie, AVP for OPC, says there are no plans to build tennis courts in the near future. As for the bowling alley, it is not in working condition and would require a full and costly renovation in order to make it operable. -In response to the question about what services are offered to evening students: -There is only one nursing stating available on campus, located in University Hall, which is locked at 5:00 p.m. A more complete response regarding other services will be provided at the next meeting. Report from the Provost -Provost Lucas reported the WASC report was moving along well but that Assessment was still a concern which is currently being addressed but a group of seven faculty looking at various assessment methods. Campus Reading Task Force -Reminder that author T.C. Boyle will be speaking tonight, at 6:30 p.m. in Salon A. -Debi Hoffman reviewed the history and purpose of the Campus Reading Celebration. She also reviewed the process of choosing the book adding that we only choose books with authors that are willing to come to campus. Other Grzegorczyk reminded everyone that they would be able to begin reviewing faculty applications on Wednesday, 11/15. Jessica LaRoe, Student Body President, updated everyone on the status of the voter registration competition being held between all the CSU campus student bodies. CSU Channel Islands won the competition as well as a bet with CSU Chico which will require them to dye their hair with 91Ƶ campus colors. Old Business SP 06-05 BA Communication (long form) -Ballman reviewed some of the changes that have been made since the last meeting. Vote taken on Policy Yes: 37 No: 0 Abstain: 1 Policy Passes SP 06-06 General Education Learning Goals and Outcomes Vote taken on Policy Yes: 35 No: 0 Abstain: 2 Policy passed without dissent New Business SP 06-07 Minor in Foundational Mathematics for Teachers -m/s, Grzegorczyk, Wood. Cordeiro stated that the Curriculum Committee endorsed this program. There was discussion regarding the name and the possible confusion it could cause to students seeking to be Math teachers. SP 06-08 B.S. in Applied Physics (Long form) -m/s-Stratton, Grzegorczyk. Jimenez-Jimenez expressed concern over the large number of units required for the major. Gvzegorczyk, responded that many of the required units are mandated by State agencies. SP 06-09 Academic Program Master Plan 2007--2014 (revised) -m/s-Stratton, Cordeiro. Lefevre briefed everyone on the charge of the Academic Planning Committee. He then reviewed the proposed changes. A few grammatical changes were suggested. SP 06-10 Posthumous Policy -m/s-Jimenez-Jimenez, Wood. SP 06-11 Changes to RTP Document (amended) -m/s-Karp, Wood. Christopher reviewed the main areas for changes to the document which were in; D, L, and N. -There was much discussion about faculty being mandated to switch to the new policy after receiving a promotion. Announcements -Cordeiro invited everyone to the Library Appreciation party scheduled for Thursday, November 16, 2006, at 4:00 p.m. in the Collaboratory room. -Codeiro invited everyone to listen to Dr. Robert T. Parry, nationally known economist, speak on Thursday, 11/16, at 6:30 p.m. in Malibu Hall 100 -Kilpatrick reminded everyone that there will be a UGlen Board meeting on Thursday, November 16, 2006, at 6:30 p.m. in the Sage Conference Room. -Wakelee informed everyone that the Spring semester schedule of classes was available on-line and in the Bookstore for students.
