Some of the suggestions included blowing less often or blowing at 7:00 a.m., prior to the start of classes each day. Old Business SP 05-05 Revision of Academic Master Plan 2006-2013 -Hampton made a friendly motion to move the Gender Studies emphasis to 2010 to coincide with the Multicultural degree. Voice vote taken on this motion. Approved unanimously. -Hampton expressed concern regarding the proposed Kinesiology degree as currently written. There was discussion about the development of the program and the various previous opportunities to address concerns about the program. Grzegorczyk called for a hand vote, Christopher objected. Vote taken: Yes: 30 No: 2 Abstention: 2 Policy passes. SP 05-10 Schedule Template -Muraoka offered an amendment to the proposed template, McNeill seconded. Muraoka spoke to the reasoning behind his amendment. Grier, as a member of the Template task force, responded to his concerns. De Oca added that the proposed template is a result of the limited space available for classes. Wakelee added that with the expected enrollment growth in future years, many classes will need to be moved to time slots prior to 10:00 a.m., after 5:30 p.m. or on Fridays. There was much discussion about possible changes to the template. Grzegorczyk reminded everyone that students coming in from high school were used to the Monday-Friday school schedule and it would not be difficult for them to adjust to a similar schedule here. Vote taken on Muraoka’s motion. Yes: 17 No: 17 Abstain: 3 Motion fails. -Busse expressed her strong desire to bring back University Hour. De Oca offered adding a sunset clause to the policy so that the possibility of University Hour could be addressed again in the future. Kilpatrick offers that although everyone would like to have University Hour back, it is not a realistic expectation with our current facility situation and expected growth rate for the next few years. After discussion about an appropriate amount of time for the sunset clause, it was agreed that three years would be a good time frame. Grier offers that the template should be “assessed” every three years to see if it warrants a change. The amendment will read “The Schedule Template will be re-evaluated within a maximum of three years.” This was accepted as a friendly amendment by the committee. Grzegorczyk called for the questions, V. Adams seconded. Unanimous approval. Vote taken: Yes: 23 No: 9 Abstain: 1 Policy passes. SP 05-11 BA in Performing Arts (long form) -Elliott re-stated his concerns from last week adding that he was not opposing the degree but he hopes the faculty hired in this area will revise the proposal and he is willing to work with them on the revising the program. Vote results: Yes: 30 No: 5 Abstain: 2 Policy passes. SP 05-12 Minor in Computer Gaming -Busse thanked everyone for recognizing the student who came in to express his concerns, adding that he did have significant concerns. His main concern was the lack of courses that would address the ethics of gaming. It was clarified that the goal of the program was to teach students to design and write programs and students can take that knowledge and also build games that help kids learn. It was suggested that renaming the degree might help clarify its purpose. Wolfe says it should be renamed as “Computer Game Design and Development.” Vote results: Yes: 30 No: 2 Abstain: 0 Policy passes. Announcements -Hampton announced an all day Grant workshop to be held by OSRP on January 20th please RSVP if you wish to attend as there is a limit of 25 participants.
