Dougherty thanked the committee for their many hours of hard work but asked that a minor modification be added to the plan with regards to the suggested date for offering Applied Physics. He requests it be offered in 2007, not in 2012 as proposed by the task force. He distributed information which addressed the concerns raised by the task force. Guest speakers from various community companies spoke and indicated they were looking forward to working with the campus through this program. Community speakers included representatives from Rockwell Scientific and an on-campus company, both of which expressed interest in offering internships and possibly jobs for CI graduates with this type of degree. A current student also spoke and said she would have liked to minor in Applied Physics and knew of several other students who wanted the major. She submitted a letter of support with various signatures. -Frisch thanked the members of the task force and commended them for all their hard work, adding that membership included lots of work and pressure. He explained the reasoning and research that went into creating this plan. All decisions were made with the best interest of the campus in mind. - Grzegorczyk expressed her support for the program, adding that the data used to make the decision was incorrect. Program costs are also incorrect because some courses are already being offered and faculty have already been hired to teach. -Christopher reminded everyone that the Provost had indicated he would welcome an amendment to the proposal which would keep the BA in Chicano Studies as currently proposed, to be offered in 2008. -Several faculty expressed their support for both the Chicano Studies and Applied Physics programs. -Cordeiro expressed concern with changing the proposed plan at this juncture, offering instead to wait until January when there will be an opportunity to make these types of changes. -Lucas agreed the process should be approved as is, with the exception of the Chicano Studies program which was a promise made, by the President, to the local community. Additional changes should be proposed in January.
