Starting new round of recruitmentmay have transferable grants from new hires. -Wallacehow can we speed up the implementation of wireless networking on campus? -DenneyWill there be a schedule for the electric bus and why is the diesel bus used instead of electric? Report from the President Ted Lucas reported the following: -The President spoke with Richard West who confirmed that our enrollment target for the Fall is 1956 FTES; however, he has not yet received this confirmation in writing. Report from the Provost -Jane Sweetland reported that the Chancellors Office has allowed us to admit students from additional categories. In addition to all fully qualified freshmen and transfer students, the University is currently accepting applications from prospective students interested in pursuing a second baccalaureate degree. -Lucas updated on newly formed task forces such as the University Planning and Coordinating Council (UPACC) which will oversee the Academic Master Plan, Strategic Plan, and the Mission Statement. Another important campus committee is the 91Ƶ Assessment Council which will coordinate assessment efforts. -Lucas informed that the AVP candidate declined the offer of a position at our campus. The search committee will be reconvening to revise the job description, and it will be re-advertised. -Lefevre reported that the recently approved degree programs would be forwarded to the Chancellors Office upon approval from the President. He also reported that People Admin. would be the program used to process adjunct-faculty applications in the hopes that it will enable chairs to identify new hires in a more timely fashion. -Lefevre invited everyone to participate in the Ventura College visit day on Friday, 12/3, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Report from the Statewide Academic Senate, CSU -Castaneda reported that at their last meeting they had a presentation by retiring Senator John Vasconcellos. Several resolutions were passed, if you are interested in knowing more details about them, please contact her. -Muraoka- the Statewide Senate and the Chancellors Office, at the direction of the Legislature, have been working on a joint initiative meant to facilitate transfer from Community College to the CSU. The top 35 majors are expected to meet and agree upon 45 common core transfer units by major prior to the end of January. Reports from the Senate Standing and Advisory Committees Senate Executive -ACIP Representative Election Ashish Vaidya has applied for re-appointment. A voice vote was taken, and Vaidyas re-appointment was unanimously approved. Committee on Centers -No Report Committee on Committees -No Report Curriculum Committee -No Report Faculty Affairs -they are working on GPS, focusing on the area of service. Fiscal Policies -No Report General Education -working on a GE Review policy and approving GE courses. Strategic and Tactical Planning -No Report Student Academic Policies and Procedures -No Report -Extended Education Advisory -Gary Berg reported that two cohorts programs have begun, one in MBA and another in the Principals program. -The OSHER program has also proven to be very successful. -Mary Fleck, part-time faculty in Business, has been hired as a program manager. Old Business SR 04-02 By-laws (revised) -de Oca motioned, Cordeiro seconded. Grzegorczyk motions to make a friendly amendment, seconded by Elliott, to substitute wording regarding the requirement for a nominee to be present in order to accept the nomination. There was discussion regarding the amendment. Rivera suggested changes to Grzegorczyks amendment which were accepted. Voice vote taken on the friendly amendment, approved unanimously. - Grzegorczyk requested clarification on staffing committee charges, Muraoka and Mozingo clarified. Vaidya offered a friendly amendment, Grzegorczyk seconded. Cordeiro called for a voice vote, Grzegorczyk seconded, approved unanimously. Vote results Cordeiro moved, Grzegorczyk seconded, to pass the as a whole with revisions; approved unanimously. SP 04-20 Policy on Student Communication, SAPP, Second Reading -Aloisio moved, de Oca seconded. Hewitt indicates there is a problem with section E and offers an amendment, Grzegorczyk seconds. There is discussion regarding telling faculty what to include in their syllabi. A vote on the amendment was taken motion failed. -There was discussion regarding obligating students to check their email. Costache offered an amendment to strike section C, Hewitt seconded. Grzegorczyk motioned to postpone the vote on this policy, Cordeiro seconded. Voice vote taken, postponement approved. SP04-21 SPED Level II Credential -Mozingo motioned, Frisch seconded, to move it to a second reading. Cordeiro called for a voice vote, unanimously approved. Quorum was lost at this point.
